Delegation Visit

During the week of June 25 through July 4, a delegation from Hampton journeyed to the African province of Malanje, Angola to reinforce our sister city relationship. Our visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships across several sectors, including culture, education, tourism, environment, and community development.

The group included Dianne Peterson, President of Sister Cities of Hampton (SCH); Wanda Tucker, SCH and 1624 Society Board Member; Scott Martin, CEO of the Fort Monroe Authority; Vincent Tucker, President of the 1624 Society Board Members. The success of this committee depends on the effort and dedication of our volunteers, so that is why we need YOU!

I've personally visited Malanje, so I can honestly say you will enjoy learning about their rich culture and history by being on this committee. If you are interested in serving through this supporting role, please consider joining and volunteering to serve on the Malanje Coordinating Committee.

  • Malanje is the capital city of Malanje Province in Angola. Located 380 kilometres (240 mi) east of Angola's capital Luanda, Malanje is projected to be the thirteenth fastest growing city on the African continent between 2020 and 2025. Hampton has the distinct honor of becoming Malanje's first sister city.
