2021 Young Artists Showcase Winners
Each year, the Young Artists Showcase encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork and literature. The Young Artists Showcase gives us an opportunity to reach out to the community. It enables us to engage local Art and English teachers and reach an audience of public, private and home-schooled students that might not already be included in our Sister City youth programs.
The 2021 first place winner of the local Sister Cities of Hampton Artists Showcase, Arianna Creasman received a $200 prize and her art work titled “Sunflower Skies” was entered in the Sister Cities International Showcase to compete for the $1,000 Grand Prize. Arianna is a senior at Bethel High School. Congratulations for rising to the challenge and delivering an incredible work of art that successfully illustrated last year's theme was “United in Hope.” Arianna’s artist statement below explains her interpretation of the Young Artists and Authors Showcase theme:
“Inspired by communication during the pandemic, I took a spin on video calls. Many different people were affected, but despite hardships, joy from loved ones inspired us to keep going. Handing sunflowers to each other despite a barrier symbolizes hope exchanged.”
The theme for the 2022 Young Artists Showcase is “Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All”. Consistent with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, Sister Cities International will adapt climate change as the overarching theme for the Young Artists and Authors Showcase in years 2022 and 2023.
